  • Investigating concurrent lines
  • By the end of the 2 activites and the homework assignment students will be able to constuct and identify all lines of concurrency as well as centers of inscribed and circumscribed triangles.
  • NC Standards: Objective 2.03: Applyproperties, definitions, and theorems of two dimensional figures to solve problems and write proofs.

  • Students will use Geometer's Sketchpad to construct acute, right and obtuse triangles. Students will then construct the medians, perpendicular bisectors, altitudes and angle bisectors in each of the triangles. They will investigate the similarities and differences in the different types of points of concurrency.
  • Materials Needed and Technologies Used: Access to my WIKI, Geometer's Sketchpad, internet access, calculators.
  • Students will work through the 2 activities on my WIKI:
    • Activity 1 deals with finding the points of concurrency.
    • Activity 2 deals with the inscribed and circumscribed triangles.
      • After each activity we will discuss as a class our results. Students will share what they did and how they came up with their conjectures/constructions.

    • After the 2 activities are completed, the teacher will lead the discussion and notes (definitions) with the students to formulate those definitions and theorems.
      • Students will have their outline for the notes on a Word document and will be able to fill in vocabulary/theorems, etc. as we review the notes. We will reflect back on our 2 activities as we go through the notes. The notes will be teacher directed.

    • Students will then begin their homework assignment using the WIKI and Google Forms and will be submitted electronically
